Priyadarshan, who is known for making serious films, too has tried to cash in on the comedy craze with Hera-Feri. A remake of the Malayalam movie Ramji Rao Speaking, Hera Pheri features Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Tabu in key roles. Hera Pheri is seen among the general public as one of the best Bollywood comedy movies of the current decade.

The first half of the movie revolves around their attempts to solve their problems, with humorous consequences. The second half shows the characters willingness to cheat to become wealthy so they can clear their debts.

The movie revolves around the lives of three men who live in Mumbai City, each having monetary troubles that they find impossible to solve. Needy Shyam (Sunil Shetty) strives for a job in order to pay back an old friend (Om Puri), Raju (Akshay Kumar), a daydreaming lothario who needs money to support his old mother and Baburao (Paresh Rawal), their boisterous, slow witted yet kind hearted landlord who’s struggling to pay off his late father’s debts.
